KAPE WinPE Builder FAQ
+ Unable to mount WIM file
The WIM file is either missing or corrupt. Please check that the WIM file is properly located in the project_folder\working\iso\sources\boot.wim
+ I am trying to select a new background image file, why isn't KAPE updating the image?
There are 2 possible reasons for this:
- The image file must be a standard bitmap (.bmp) file to be recognized by WinPE as a background file. Confirm the file type and format.
- There are certain configurations that prevent modifying the image file inside a mounted .wim from within KAPE, namely WAIK3 under Windows 7 64bit. In these situations, simple copy the desired bitmap file directly to the System32 folder located under the mounted KAPE project folder Working\Mount\Windows\System32.
+ Why does it take so long to mount the .wim file?
There are certain hardware and software configurations where the WinPE build tools take an unnecessarily long time to mount the .wim file. For example, reports state specifically WAIK3 under Windows 7 64bit, as well as machines with too little memory. Unfortunately, this appears to be a limitation of the environment, and occurs both within the native command-line WinPE tools as well in KAPE.
